Honoring Our Caregivers This National Nurses Week

This May, Good Shepherd Hospice is proud to join the American Nurses Association in celebrating National Nurses Week (May 6–12). The theme for 2026, “The Power of Nurses,” couldn’t be more fitting for the incredible men and women who serve our patients and families.

In the world of hospice, “power” isn’t about clinical authority – it’s about the profound impact a nurse has during life’s most delicate moments. It is the power to provide comfort when words aren’t enough, the power to advocate for a patient’s dignity, and the power to bring peace to a family in distress.

The Transformative Impact of Hospice Nursing

Hospice nurses possess a unique blend of high-level clinical expertise and deep emotional intelligence. Their “power” manifests in three vital ways:

  • Clinical Excellence: Our nurses are experts in pain management and symptom control. They ensure that every patient can live as comfortably and fully as possible, providing care that is both skilled and scientific.
  • The Power of Presence: Beyond the medicine, a hospice nurse offers a steady hand and a calm voice. They are there at 2:00 AM to answer questions, provide reassurance, and ensure that no one walks the journey of a life-limiting illness alone.
  • Family Advocacy: Nurses empower families. By educating caregivers and providing emotional support, they give families the tools and confidence they need to care for their loved ones with love and grace.

Celebrating Our “Power Players”

Our nurses at Good Shepherd Hospice are more than just healthcare providers; they are the heart of our mission. Whether they are visiting patients in their homes, nursing facilities, or assisted living centers, they embody our core values of Respect, Integrity, and Compassion.

A nurse is not just a caregiver; they are a companion on a sacred journey, offering solace and expertise when it is needed most.

Join Us in Saying Thank You

This week, we invite you to help us celebrate #ThePowerOfNurses. A simple “thank you” can go a long way in honoring the dedication and sacrifice of these essential professionals.

Would you like to share a story about a Good Shepherd nurse who made a difference for your family, or perhaps send a digital “thank you” note to our team? We would love to share your words of appreciation with our staff!
