It’s National Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Week, and this year, the National Association of Health Care Assistants (NAHCA) nailed the theme: “We’re Unbelievable!”
Our CNAs are the hands, the feet, and the heart of our hospice care. They see the extra shifts, step into the quiet moments of vulnerability, and show up day after day with unwavering dedication. They aren’t just the backbone of our care team – they are the magic that makes it all work.

Hospice care requires a delicate balance. Our CNAs are masters at managing the essential clinical needs of daily living – bathing, grooming, and ensuring physical comfort – while simultaneously building deep, genuine human connections. They don’t just “complete tasks;” they preserve dignity.
- The Calm in the Storm
Navigating the end-of-life journey can be overwhelming for families. Fear, grief, and uncertainty often fill the room. Yet, when a Good Shepherd CNA steps in, the temperature changes. With a steady presence, a gentle voice, and a compassionate touch, they provide a sense of peace to families during their toughest days. They offer reassurance to anxious loved ones, proving that even in the hardest moments, no one has to walk this road alone.
- The Heart of the Team
Because CNAs spend so much intimate, one-on-one time at the bedside, they possess a unique superpower: they notice the smallest details that others might miss. Whether it’s a subtle change in a patient’s breathing, a specific preference for how they like their pillows turned, or a sudden craving for a favorite food, our CNAs catch it. They advocate fiercely for our patients, bridging the gap between the patient’s immediate comfort and the rest of the clinical care team.
